The washer is about 6 yrs old and heavily used. The link to the parts dept of Sears is http://www.searspartsdirect.com then add the model number a decent exploded view of the parts will show up. After calling a non Sears repair service and having them replace the Sensor (tub position sensor I think it is) It helped but did not completely fix the problem. I then replaced the hub because its inexpensive and easy and seemed a little loose. This also helped but did not completely fix the problem. I then followed the procedure as described above, got the DeoxiT and proceeded to disembowel the machine and I found.
1. The sensor was not properly seated.
2. There is a large center nut on the bottom of the tub that was loose, this is not shown on the parts diagram.
After reseating the sensor, and tightening the large nut (32mm) and applying the contact cleaner it now works properly.

comment: this machine is mechanically pretty simple, it is not as intimidating as I was lead to believe, it does not take a mechanical genesis to do these repairs.

Again a reminder, have a support of some kind, small table top, board, 4x4 and a rag ready to support the stator because the wires will not allow hanging it from them.

This website is wonderful by the way.

oops, forgot the link for the video. lol.

To fix the F51 fault, I did as previously explained, removed the control panel, cleaned all of the connectors at the circuit board and applied electrical contact grease to ensure a proper closed circuit. I also removed the motor underneath, also cleaning all connections and applying electrical contact grease. This fixed the F51 fault.

For the oL fault (trips overload fault even with no clothes inside), it's described here in detail. http://www.justanswer.com/appliance/5j67a-whirlpool-cabrio-washer-giving-ol-code-tried.html The wash basket needs to slide up and down the motor shaft in order to engage/disengage the agitator properly. There was 'rust buildup' on the shaft, causing it to 'stick'. I removed the basket, cleaned the shaft and bin bearings with sandpaper, put a light layer of WD40, and reinstalled. Works great.

Here's a complete teardown video I found. Obviously, only disassemble as needed. Thanks Bloggers for your help!!!

Note: I did everything with the washer still upright, and water lines still connected. We got the f51 code called the same genius who told us to buy it and he had no idea what could be wrong "look it up on the net he told us". We ordered the wire harness and all the crap and replaced it all, still didn't work. Got onto this site and went with the cleaning of the conectors and it is running now. Will see how long it lasts. Anyone who can fix appliances and is looking for a job you can make a killing in NE SK. Called the 866.698.2538 number this morning. I was told by a service rep that my particular model number and serial number has not had a history of these issues and therefore would not be covered. I then asked to speak to a manager. I informed her of all that I have been reading online, and how my machine (ie model and serial combination) might be new, but this problem has been going on for awhile with the Cabrios. I informed her that I wish I would have known to look for this before I bought my washer! It has helped!
Now what to do in the future? Do I spend more money on this machine and buy the extended warranty? OR just start saving for a new NON WHIRLPOOL machine?? Shortly, after 12 months we began to have problems with all three. Today, it is our fourth call for servicing on our Cabrio Washer F51 Flu, second time this year. It is an epidemic which Whirlpool has stated numerous times, "They are unaware of any problem with this model & the F51 code". I live in Illinois. We use a service repair company which is recommended by Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid and all other manufactures. They have stated, this is a common problem which is reoccurring with the Cabrio washer and Whirlpool will not authorize on their dime to fix the actual problem. The actual problem is not the control board W10112113A & speed sensor 8565188A. But on many units it is in addition to the primary cause being a loose bolt under the tub. Tightening the bolt is a temporary fix since the tubing and the bolt itself are usually striped. What is needed to fix the problem which others have posted are the Rotor 280146 & Outer Tube W10193886, estimate cost over $600.00.

Todays service call was suppose to be on Whirlpool's dime after calling them with a complaint and the numerous blogs I read regarding the Cabrio Flu F51. I called the recommended number 1-866-698-2538 list on some blogs which others found to be helpful getting servicing, parts & labor on Whirlpool dime approved to fix once and fall all the washer & the F51 code.

After he arrived, I had their service man speak to them regarding what is needed. Whirlpool stated to me, they will cover all cost for repair, servicing and labor. Only when the service man arrived he was told to replaced the circuit board with one (not the correct one for my F51 code ) but the one for a F1 code. Yes, you would think it would be one of the same, but its not. The new board which would have been put into my unit if I had an unethical Technician, would prevent the F51 code. This is what Whirlpool told him to do. He stated, the problem is actually replacing the two parts mentioned above, but Whirlpool, even thou told me 3 days prior would pick up all parts and labor to fix my unit at no charge to me, declined to cover the needed parts & repair. I called Whirlpool that day and spoke to their customer service rep (1-866-698-2538). This Whirlpool representative agreed the Rotor & Outer Tube should be covered based on what was agreed. His Supervisor Sue #3798 out of Michigan, said "No" & apologized for our problem we are having with the washer & Whirlpool did us a favor since the washer is now out of warranty. Once again (Sue-employee #3798) stated "they don't see a problem nor a need for a recall since this is not a manufacturing problem.

Whirlpool made a washer "Calypso" which many service repair companies will not offer extended warranties on and recommend buying a new washer. Whirlpool settled a multi million dollar class action lawsuit on the Calypso due to similar experience customers are having with Whirlpool over the F51 code. Whirlpool failed to admit to a substandard product & did not stand behind their product, causing consumers like us hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for purchasing, service & parts trying to fix the problem. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ANY WHIRLPOOL, KITCHEN AID, MAYTAG PRODUCT TO ANY CONSUMER....THEY ARE ONE OF THE SAME!!! Unfortunately, I think Whirlpool needs another class action lawsuit, since they are not an ethical or reparable company making quality products nor stands behind their product & servicing. Ask your service men in your area, regarding the Calypso & the Cabrio F51 codes. Make sure the part being put into your washer to fix the problem is the correct part.

we have had a cabrio washer since 07 just called w...

we have had a cabrio washer since 07 just called whirpool number I got from this Web site,VERY HELPFULL.Service call set up for the F1 error code and the cusotmer service said that my model was covered. Thanks to all that posted their nightmares.

"crazy christensen family" are you in th...

"crazy christensen family" are you in the NJ area? Just from a tech stand point, we knew he design was flawed immediately. Although it is poorly manufactured and a service nightmare, Whirlpool still makes other machines that are great and last a long time. Their duet's, excluding the sport model, are great. I think we find that every major manufacturer has flops now and then. The Maytag Neptune was probably what put them out of business. It was very simple to disconnect the hose, reached in and felt money, poured it out. It worked great for a few more days until more money founds its way again into the motor. Fished out a complete outfit for my wife from the inner tub. Totally amazed at how an adult T-shirt and shorts can make it thru the inner tub? Really shocked at the low quality of the circuit boards as well, amazing amount of over-spray on the electrical contacts for the motor sensor. This blog saved me a call to the repairman. I have already replaced-repaired the drain pump housing twice because of a quarter caught in the pump. I am very dismayed by the lack of engineering foresight in this washer. My Dad finally retired his 45 year old snowblower, he lives in northern NY where it snows 5 months out of the year.
