Previous poster, it looks based on some of those models that you're looking at the compact front loaders. You might want to also take a look at the LG WM1355HW. Its gotten good reviews, and LG has a good track record lately based on the consistently sttrong ratings of their machines.

Whatever you do, I'd stay away from cheaping out. Not that you were, but look at this Kenmore 4041 washer review. Only got 2 stars. It might be inexpensive, but it looks like you might get what you pay for there.

Your best bet on a wash that can take that kind of abuse would be to look into what models of washers laundry places use.

Not that they can handle the kind of punnishment that the previous poster would dish out, but LG has come up with 2 new washers in the last month or so. Check out this LG WM2140CW review or this LG WM3360HWCA review for more information on these brand new models.

Any recommendations for a washer that can handle being run 24/7, large loads and NOT high efficient (HE = special, hard to find & costly detergent)). I currently have a Kenmore 4.0 cu. ft. top-load machine. I have 5 kids, nine dogs, 3 cats, ducks, chickens & tutrles (all familypets). I do a lot if laundery, including heavy bedding, blankets, tarps. My current machine is only 5yrs old but in the last 10 months has been serviced 8 times. HELP

This post is somewhat old, in fact the WM0642HW mentioned here is probably soon to go out of production, if it isn't already. LG has been busy cranking out new models though. For example, this LG WM3885HWCA review lists this model as thier latest and greatest top of the line steam washer. Although, I think after reading this LG WM2501HWA review I would probably go with this model.

You're kidding me, right? The demise of Maytag was 100% self-inflicted. They had been churning out mediocre, or outright crappy, appliances for years. The recall of the Samsung-built washers had nothing to do with the purchase of Maytag by Whirlpool.

Yep, Samsung did indeed have a hefty recall. Of course, so have Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, Viking... you get my point. You can single out Samsung all you want, but at least try and be a bit fair.

So let me get this straight.

Samsung made a revised version of the Maytag Neptune. This washer was apparently so bad it helped force the company into new ownership, and (along with Samsung versions of the same machines) was recalled by the government (some 270,000 washers).

Take a look at this Samsung washer owner and what he found when he took apart his 2-year old washer to discover why it kept giving computer error codes:

Hi, Just a comment on very comprehensive and well written post about washers. I personally own the Samsung front loaders and so far so good.

One thing is that I would never recommend buying a new top loader just for the amount of water they consume per load. A 10 year old washer can take up to 20 gallons per load (4-5 gallons per cycle) whereby many HE machines only require 2 gallons. This is extremely significant from an environmental point of view.
