Reader Mail: Sears letter on the Oasis

Posted by Brad Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Well, it looks like Sears has finally decided they can't ignore the elephant in the room any longer and are addressing the problems with the Oasis HE washers. It will be interesting to see if Whirlpool follows suit.

If you haven't seen the letter that has gone out to some owners of these machines, you can check it out below. My thanks to Rick for sending me a copy.

If you have received this letter, let me know how it goes!

  2. You're over a year late on this one. That issue was resolved quiet some time ago, and the letter is pretty old now. The control boards and wash plates were updated and no longer are a concern. Although front load is definately better anyway.

  4. Over a year late, eh? Issue resolved?

Ricardo101 in that thread got his letter on 4/9/09. The letter may be pretty old now, but they didn't all go out at once. A lot of people just recently got theirs or are still awaiting a resolution to their problem.

Man, I can't stand snarky douchebags.

  6. I just got the same letter on 4/23/09 from Sears and my repair is scheduled for tomorrow AM. After first buying the Oasis HE, we encountered no problems...then about a year into owning it, the F51 error started...not all the time, but often enough to be annoying and usually only on heavy loads like towels or jeans. A quick search brought me to your site, among many others, addressing this issue. After reading a post by someone, either here or at another site, that indicated it might be a balancing issue, I tried my best to make sure my machine was correctly leveled, something the delivery guys never did. Anyway, after doing that, the F51 error miraculously stopped for maybe a year or more and hasn't come back yet. And now this letter...Since I'm thinking it's possible that the machine could resume it's lovely F51 error at anytime, I'm taking Sears up on their offer to replace my electronic control board "at no cost to me." With fingers crossed, I'm hoping that I don't create more problems for myself by "fixing" something that is no longer erroring out. I'll keep you posted once I find out if it was all worth it or not.

  8. Thank you so much for your help Brad. I called this morning and have an appt in 2 weeks. They are mailing me a new control board in the interim. If the problem is really in the Motor Position Sensor, will installing a new board solve the problem, or is it that the MPS connects to the board so inherent in it's installation is the solution? Thanks again...a non-working washing machine is almost as frustrating as having left the cell phone at home!
