Kenmore Oasis Class Action Lawsuit?

Posted by Brad Sunday, March 15, 2009

For some time, I have been getting visitors to my blog as a result of Google searches referencing a class action lawsuit for the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos machines. I have no idea what is taking place in different parts of the country in regard to legal action on the basis of the f51 error codes.

I do, however, know of at least on firm (I've no doubt there are probably many more) that is investigating these problems in the Kenmore Oasis washers. More information can be found at this site: Kenmore Oasis Class Action Investigation.

If any of you contact this firm, let me know what happens.

  2. Today (4/3/09) I got a letter from Sears. They will replace the electronic control board (you know, the F-51 business) for FREE, in warranty or not. Serial #s for the Bad Board begin: CS48 - CS52 or CT01-CT49. Call Sears at 800-847-9083. The voices of all of us have finally been heard! There is, as stated above, a class action attorney firm in San Francisco looking into a legal remedy.

  4. I had my control panel replaced free of charge after a long wait. Unfortunately, a little over 3 months later, the f51 code has come back, and my washer is no longer functioning. Sears has refused to take any further action, despite the fact that this is a faulty design and "lemon" washer.

  6. Have had 5 service calls since I purcashed 09-06. F1 problem, they have file on the gear, replaced 2 timers wiring harness< did request a new washer. they put enough time and parts to purcash a new machine. Now that the warranty and service agreement is expired. they are saying my machines doesnt have a recall will not take care of. I have been so much run around the 800 no are just a bunch of trained chones that give the same speech. I worked for customer service and as a parts pro for Sears for 25 yrs. was trained that the customer was alway right; and alway made exceptions..Have purchased every applaince I have from Sears, never again

  8. The oasis washers are pieces of sh-t! I cannot believe that their engineers allowed these dung piles to be mass produced and sold with the kenmore name on them. Tsk tsk tsk. You live, you learn. I've owned mine for about two years... nothing but problems from the start!

  10. I have had my machine for two years now. I bought the washer and dryer set brand new. I have Sears out 11 timesto fix the F50&F51 error codes. The last time I had the washer fixed the repair man was not even out of my driveway when the washer once again stopped and flashed the error code. I have not had a working washer in about 4 months and I have just spent another long night being sent from department to department (one lady told me to call Whirlpool and gave me their number. She told me that that was who manufactured my washing machine..........really i'm not kidding!) on the phone. I don't know what to do! Sears wants $150.00 just to come out and then $450.00 for the part. I can not afford to have them fix it and I can not afford a new washer and in the mean time I have 3 kids who have no clean clothes and I have to spend more money at the laundry mat tomorrow. I've been on the Class Action Site but have not heard anything back from them since this past spring.

  12. The sensor is not snapped in tightly.. this happened to me twice. Vibrations and heat mean it wiggles loose over time and for me this is about a year or so. The first time was within the year so it was covered.

If your machine is serial number CS48 - CS52 or CT01-CT49 the recall has now been downgraded to CS48 - CS52 or CT01-CT35

So I was snookered into buying a warranty to cover for this. I anticipate it happening again.

Also, I found this fix on another site which led me here, but I'm not able to do this:

"We also had the dreaded F51 problem. The issue is the connection between the control board and the
motor sensor board. The fix is fully described in the World of Washers web site. Basically, you need
to remove the motor magnet assembly, thus exposing the sensor board. Remove the connector to the
motor sensor assembly and clean it. What I did was to re-insert the connector after applying
Stabilant-22A to the connection. Stabilant is a contact enhancer and is used in automotive and
healthcare applications. After doing this, I've been F51 free for about 4 months."

  14. To the poster who said they were told to call Whirlpool - that is correct.

Actually Sears does NOT make these machines, they just sell them. It's Whirlpool/Maytag and yes I did call them directly to discuss why this keeps happening and I told them about the twice looseness which would seem to go along with the fact that Stabilant-22A might help make the 'connection' that is lost when the sensor wiggles loose.

  16. I am currently on hold trying to resolve this issue as well. Is there any sense in replacing this if it is due to lack of contact? I have to have the tub replaced as well, so the repairman is coming back (after a 2 week wait to have him come out!) Jan 5 to replace the tub and of course, has the mother board in his truck due to many people needing that replaced! Mine is the CT50, so is not covered by the recall.

  18. has anyone had a problem with the 280 series. I just got mine about a month ago. 1100 for the washer and dryer together, and im afraid this is going to happen. I can see where the high speed washer would shake things loose, im now thinking i should call and tell them i dont want it and want to switch it to something else. anyone?
